Throughout This Year

Projects I Have Worked On

Throughout this year in my animation class i have accomplished several projects, and some that i was not able to finish like my Story Book animation over the book Opposites by Sandra Boynton. While trying to make it i had to cut out the characters of the book and animate them in after effects this process was very long and i soon ran out of time so i left it where it was with no sound and not completely finished.

This year i also made a Lower Thirds Pull out animation for our video department with on of my classmates, we had some trouble with this project because their wasn't really good communication with the team so we did the best we could and i think it turned out alright.

Me and a team of others made a animation for the First Robotics Team here at ONW (Warning the sound is very loud at some points).
Aslo during this year i made my Zero Head Animation that i submitted to our schools media festival called emagine, i think i could have done better with the lighting but that was all i had time for.

Green Screen Project

Scope

For this project our team just wanted to keep things simple and do something fun.

Process

During the thought process we came up with the idea to have someone get shot into space and then land onto the moon, so then we went into story boarding.

Story Boarding:

Unfortunately I don't have access to them but what we decided on was to have one of our friends on their phone looking lost, and then the screen would shake, and while they were standing in a field next to a river their would be a sudden burst of water underneath her, and she would get launched into space, while in space she would be getting farther away from earth and closer to the moon, after a while she would land on the moon and take a selfie.
Here are the images we used for the backgrounds.

What I Learned

Technical:

Some technical things I learned through this project were how to use Green Screens, I also learned a lot on how to use the color correction tools in after effects while trying to make it look like our friend was actually their but we ran into some problems with it and did the best we could.

Professional:

As soon as we got an idea we got started right away and it was very beneficial, so I've learned that starting a project and getting right on it is really helpful. I have also learned that it is extremely important to communicate with your team so that no one is left out of the plan and know exactly what to do.

Next Time:

If I were to do this again in the future I don't think I would change a whole lot of what we did because we got on it really quick. So for the most part I would do most of it the same as we did it. I think this experience will help me for future projects because it helped me realize the importance of time management and commitment to a project.

Final Product

Conclusion:

I am happy on how this project turned out, it was fun to do and besides some minor things it looked decent for what we were going for.

Opposites Animation

Opposites by Sandra Boynton: Animation

This semester in my animation class we were tasked with making an animation from a children's board book of our choosing. After we are done making the animations we will be giving the books away. I chose to do Opposites by Sandra Boynton, a fun book i used to read when i was a kid. Now that i have chosen my book the next step in my animation process was to make a story board.

After i had made the story board i needed to make a rough animation to time everything out.

Wizard battle

Scope:
The scope of the project was to create a fun animation using stop motion and with some live action.
Process:
Our team began with a group conversation where everyone was pitching ideas. We started with wizard and then someone gave us an idea for the conflict. The conflict was changed a few times but we settled with the idea of two wizards trying to out compete each other, and they used a human subject to change into varying objects. After a while they turn the guy into a skeleton and they see their error, buy the power of team work they are able to get him back to regular. After the story board was complete we made a rough video of the story board.
After making the rough story board video we began shooting, we decided to use our schools event entrance. Although we should have picked a different spot because it was occupied a lot of the time so we were set back. For shooting we went and gathered the materials from various places we got the chair from our main animation room, we got an extension cord and tripod from our video room, and we got the props from our group members, chloe was the one who brought the camera. After the shooting was done we began the editing process. Chloe was the main editor and Jade helped figure out some problems with cutting frames. after the editing process was done we presented it in front of the class to be critiqued. After that was done we went back to fix a few things and here is the final product

Learning:
During this project i learned that it is important to be vary on task while shooting or time will fly by, luckily we were able to get on task and get the animation done.

Final Product of Zer0

To render out my animation i first rendered them out all as jpg's and then imported them into After Effects, and then i had to individually select and move every frame over, all 250 of them which took a while, but after i was done with that i rendered it out and then there was my final product

I am not entirely happy with my final product because of the lack of lighting on the back of the head, but over all it turned out fine,

i created a CV curve so i could eventually put a camera on it to do the 360 shot of it
I then adjusted the curve and attached the camera on it  and now it is time to render

Coloring

I added a red color to the display thingy and made it glow.

I also added a black color to the front of the helmet.

Zer0's display thingy

since i don't have enough time to model the rest of the body i have decided to make zer0's red display thing and probably do a 360 turn
i started with a cube and i used difference to get the insides out and put the line in-between it so it would look like a 0
then i put on a new material and made it slightly transparent and red, the next step will to be to make it glow.
